I believe I started playing the Recorder during my High School years. It's hard to say when I first started, since I've never played the Recorder in any group. My first Recorder was the Soprano Recorder. I started playing it because I wanted to be able to play some Christmas songs by Mannheim Steamroller. They use a lot of Recorders in their music, and that's why I decided to play them. I currently own: an Aulos Garklein Sopranino in C, a Yamaha Sopranino in F, a Yamaha Soprano (Descant) in C, a Yamaha Alto (Treble) in F, a Yamaha Tenor in C, & a Yamaha Bass in F. I play a lot of solos with them, and I've arranged a lot of music to be able to perform with these wonderful instruments. For those of you who do not know what a Recorder is, a Recorder is a Baroque era Flute. They are played in the same position as a Clarinet or Oboe, and not like a regular Flute (Transverse- held up and to the side). They only have a 2 octave range. The Tenor Recorder (about the size of a Clarinet) is what I'm playing in the picture!
